    CanoScan LiDE20 jamming with scanimage

    Hello.
I have a CanoScan LiDE20 which, according to this page, is completely supported by SANE. sane-find-scanner detects it, but whenever I try to scanimage, or scan with XSane, the scanner jams with the lamps on shortly after starting, and nothing short of unplugging it will stop it. I reboot to WinXP, and it scans perfectly well, not jamming at all. Reboot to FC5, sane-find-scanner finds it again, and scanimage or XSane make it jam again. Terminating scanimage gives only a "Trying to stop scanner" message, but the scanner does not stop until I unplug it. Trying to run scanimage again (with the scanner plugged back in, of course) results in "scanimage: no SANE devices found", even though sane-find-scanner still sees it.

A friend suggested using Xscanimage, but the program is not included in the frontends version I have (1.0.14-1.2.1). It is, apparently, in the RPMs for Mandrakelinux, but not in the ones for Fedora.

So... what can I do about this problem?

    Thank you for your time,

    -Fibo

    Update

I booted the machine from a Knoppix liveCD I remembered I had, apt-get installed sane, and tried to scanimage. It worked! Tried XSane and xscanimage (which I was pleased to find here). They worked too!
I then rebooted to FC5. Uninstalled all packages whose name contained the string "sane", downloaded the sources from the SANE project page, compiled & installed them (no errors reported), ran xscanimage... and the darned scanner just jammed again.

What else can I do about this problem?

    Thanks again,

    -Fibo

Now I tried compiling SANE from the sources under Knoppix. I didn't even had to download them - I used the very same ones that made my scanner jam under Fedora when used. Well, compiled and installed the backends, then the frontends, then ran scanimage.

It worked! (still under Knoppix, of course)

So the problem is certainly *not* within SANE. It still doesn't work under Fedora, though :'( if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say the problem is within FC5.

Any ideas on what else can I try here? Or am I doomed to boot Knoppix (or worse yet, Windoze) each and every time I want to use the scanner?
    Please help!

    Thanks in advance,

    -Fibo
