Xorg hogging CPU in Fedora 16

Installed F16 through preupgrade yesterday. Immediately noticed that CPU is racing (~50-75%) whenever I am using GUIs (Firefox, Thunderbird, Libreoffice ... you name it), making things quite slow. I have attached my xorg.conf, along with the usual stuff.

What is your experience in this regard? If it is a common issue I will file a bug- may be it is already filed (I did not find time to check the bugzilla.)

I only have this constant massive CPU load (100% on at least one core) when using the gnome system monitor. Other times I have spikes of 30-40%. and the system is generally sluggish at best.

I switched desktop to Xfce and the gnome system monitor is still the massive CPU load while running.

I'm just not happy with F16 and after nouveau issues causing me to reload from scratch, I'm considering another distro or F14.

I'm just sick of fighting Fedora over nouveau gnome 3, broadcom wifi, and Nvidia drivers.

The nouveau driver causes my system to get an ugly white screen with black/grey areas.

fix for nouveau:
edit the grub kernel line at during boot...
nouveau.modeset=0 rdblacklist=nouveau
then press F10 to continue booting and add to grub.cfg when able.

for wifi and nvidia
use ethernet cable (required) to add rpmfusion repos and add:
kmod-wl and kmod-nvidia

@ Leigh, good to hear from you after a long time. Your solution worked. Xorg is back to 0.5-1.0% CPU usage. Thanks.

For others, Leigh's solution which worked for me:

su
yum update *\nvidia\* --enablerepo=rpmfusion-*-rawhide
reboot

Liked the way it showed " Beta Driver" in the splash screen ;-).

for me updating to the rawhide versions gave me a lot of segfaults. from launching google chrome to navigating kde system settings. so for now i reverted to nouveau.
