Smile [solved] Fedora 16 (KDE) seems to slow down GTK GUI (NVidia)

    Hello all

I have a really big Problem here on my F16 Machine.
When i use QT-Based Programs (as example Clementine) my Computer running fast - But when i try to start Firefox, yumex or EasyTag, My Computer is unusable. First i was thinking it is Kernel 3.0, but it sounds not logical. So also writing a comment like that needs a long time...

    What i did till now:
    Firefox - New Profile
    Deleting my old ~/home/.kde
(then i installed all from new except my Home-Partition.

Till now i never had such a Problem with Fedora (and i use it now a long Time) - I love this Distro.

But for now i have no Plan how to solve this Problem.

    Hope for Help
    (and sorry my Bad English)

    Chris

Re: Fedora 16 (KDE) seems to slow down GTK GUI (i think)

I am having this issue as well. KDE runs great until I launch applications like firefox or yumex. I was just starting to troubleshoot this too. I don't think it is the 3.x kernel as I was running 3.x on Fedora 15 just fine. I did a fresh install and have the same problem.

I'm going to look at the video card/driver next as nouveau did not seem slow (though it had other problems.) Currently I am using a GeForce 8400 GS with the latest akmod-nvidia.

I'm also using F16 with KDE since beta, but I didn't experienced nothing like that.
I have an ATI card with standard Xorg drivers. The only suggestion I can think is that you can disable KDE desktop effects (Settings - System settings - Desktop effects) and see if this helps...

Re: Fedora 16 (KDE) seems to slow down GTK GUI (i think)

It seems that it's an Nvidia driver issue, especially if you have a GeForce 8-series derived card. There should be an update to correct this problem in just a few days, so just be patient!

(I figured this out because GNOME Shell is, as a whole, practically unusable because of this issue. Not that it really matters though, I'm thinking of jumping ship to KDE-only at this point.)

Re: Fedora 16 (KDE) seems to slow down GTK GUI (i think)

Like Vespa wrote i used nouveau at the beginning (after install) but it is slow too - I use kmod nvidia drivers, so there is not a driver issue i think. But marvin uses ATi so there can be a Graphic-Driver problem too... I really dont know where to search, but i know now that a change to akmod will not help.

    I use a GeForce 9600 M GT. 4Gb Memory and a Intel Core Duo.

First i was thinking this could be a Problem by oxygen-gtk. So i changed to Adwaita. It seems to be a bit faster but not better for using.

I saw Firefox uses more than 180mb of Ram - When i try to minimize this to a lower priority it works faster. After a close and reopen - same Game again...

In F15 i dont had this problem and i used KDE 4.7.3 too. GTK Programs running fast there...

Re: Fedora 16 (KDE) seems to slow down GTK GUI (i think)

I really wanna thank u for solving this Problem - This Beta-Driver seems to work for now.
But u dont have to enable booth rpmfusion packages - U just need "nonfree".

Now i have just to figure out how to change my boot resolution and i will be happy
