Troubles with java, netbeans, virtualBox after update.

I have F10 system which worked well until I made small "security" update yesterday.
Soon after update I realized that VirtualBox stopped to work - when I start it nothing appears on screen.
Then I found java version of tightvnc viewer not working - it is starts, shows part of UI but freezes on connecting to remote host.
Next was netbeans - it outputs lot of loading info to console, but finally freezes too.

Looks like all this software freezes when trying to connect to network (VirtualBox and Netbeans check for new version on startup).

    Deadly "update" consited of

    Resolution

There seems to be an issue with this package, libX11-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386.

To solve this, rollback to the previous version.
    1. Get the previous version RPM libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm, I found it here:
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i386.rpm.html Some of the links seem to be broken, use ftp.pbone.net.
      use this command:wget ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/download.....fc10.i386.rpm
    2. using rpm with rollback to version libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm, cd to the directory you downloaded the file.
use this command:rpm -Uvh --oldpackage libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm

    Hope this helps!

All my Qt4 based applications stopped working. Rolling back as you described got me back to business, only I had to install the devel package too, that can be acquired from the same place.

    Good catch!

    I found it here: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/b...?buildID=70105

But it won't install. Do I have to remove the 1.1.5 version first?

After two bad updates in two months, you get a bit leery about saying yes to the Fedora updates! Looks like they are not being tested before they are released.

Guess I'll be using GnomeBaker until I can solve the K3b problem.

looks like they have only new packages.

There are all the built packages in koji. I don't say that the updates are not tested, but theese updates always come when i'm in work... today i needed to check something in a db, squirrel, db2 control center dont worked after the update... i needed to google the problem, find the package which can cause the problem, downgrade the package, restart X, file a bug... instead of my simple select from where. That package were built on march 01, it was three weeks ago, i don't understand, no one of the testers used javao or qt apps in that 3 weeks... if no, ask me, i will upgrade to testing, and downgrade right after...

try 'rpm -Uvh --oldpackage', it should be override your newer package. If installed successfully, then restart X or the computer

    Same problem here

if i try rpm -Uvh --oldpackage libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm

    I've this :
    error: Failed dependencies:
    libX11 = 1.1.5-1.fc10 is needed by (installed) libX11-devel-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386

I don't want to solve dependencies one by one ( libX11-devel-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386 has 54 packages depending of it)

I hope a fix will arise asap

    Regards

    Help

The issue is with both the packages in your case:
    libX11-devel-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386
    libX11-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386

So you need to rollback both of them.

    Step 1:
Download both RPMS separately from each of the following locations (ftp.pbone.net worked for me):
    http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i386.rpm.html
    http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat....i386.rpm.html

    Step 2:
Now that you have downloaded the 2 previous RPMS separately, change to root and change directory to where you downloaded these files.
    su - l
cd <directory where you downloaded the RPM files>

    Step 3:
Rollback the libX11-devel-1.1.5-1.fc10.i386 to the older package libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm first.
    rpm -Uvh --nodeps --oldpackage libX11-devel-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm
    (notice the nodeps option)

    Then the other
    rpm -Uvh --oldpackage libX11-1.1.4-6.fc10.i386.rpm

Let me know if this works!
