Special Characters in C

I am trying in c with ncurses to develope a euchre program(just for the fun of it). I was wondering if there was a way in c(with special characters or an octal or hexidecimal value) to output symbols like a heart, spade, club, or diamond to the screen. Let me know if you have any ideas.

Apparently ncurses supports Unicode. Use the ncurses-devel package, ncursesw.h include file.
