Hal fails to start at boot

I have installed Fedora core 4 with KDE (I didn't install the GNOME packges) and during boot the HAL service fail to start, most of the time but not always. Once in KDE, I can restart it manually and seems to work fine.

I checked the documentation about HAL and fstab-sync but I realized that the Fedora implementation is much different from other KDE distribution I tried before (SUSE, KUBUNTU), for example the directory device.d doesn't exist.

Anybody has any idea of why HAL doesn't start ?

Thanks for the support,
