Gaim Mess not giving sounds :(

HI All !!!
I have already tried installed Gaim from the source and thr is some prob that it is not giving the sounds i m setting. I dono whatz the problem that is occuring n have alredy tried to many times setting the sound of the mess from the sound files of the gaim as well as the linux system sounds but still getting no clue whats goin wrong
Can some body help what could be the prob bcoz of that its not working ??

did you look into the preferences of Gaim?

click the sound and see what settings are checked

You may need to setup alsa mixing and be sure all apps use alsa for sound output.
