Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

Hi,

when I start the acrobat reader, I get

Code:
/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread: error while loading shared libraries: libEGL.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Any idea how to fix that?

best regards

Re: Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

It's as easy as installing whatever it says is missing generally.
Code:
[me@here ~]$ yum provides libEGL.so.1
mesa-libEGL-9.2.5-1.20131220.fc20.i686 : Mesa libEGL runtime libraries
Repo        : updates
Matched from:
Provides    : libEGL.so.1
So, install mesa-libEGL.

Re: Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

Acrobat Reader is 32 bit, so you need the 32 bit libs for it. Your installed 64 bit libs won't work with it.
Code:
# yum install mesa-libEGL.i686

Adobe reader is a 32bit application so you need the 32bit library, mesa-libEGL.i686.

Re: Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

How did you install Acrobat Reader? If you installed it from an official RPM then all the 32-bit dependencies should have been installed. Look at the instructions here: http://www.if-not-true-then-false.co...-red-hat-rhel/

To get a better idea of which 32-bit libraries you're missing, run this command in a terminal and show us the output:
Code:
ldd /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread | grep "not found"
There will be about 12 libraries not found just because they're loaded dynamically by the wrapper script that runs the acroread command. But any more than that would be due to missing dependencies.

Re: Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

I went to http://get.adobe.com/de/reader/otherversions/
and downloaded a version for linux. However, the latest version is 9.5.5, while under linux the latest version is 11...
I think an rpm package... if this is compatible with yum. Could also have been a deb file. Only one worked.

Great that Adobe does not provide support... at least there is no contact information at this site.

Interesting command. I did not know that.

Code:
ldd /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/bin/acroread | grep "not found"
	libBIB.so => not found
	libBIBUtils.so => not found
	libACE.so => not found

	libcrypto.so.0.9.8 => not found
	libResAccess.so => not found

but, actually everything seems to be on the system somewhere:

Re: Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

Have you tried an strace to see where it is looking for those libraries, maybe is just a case of making a symlink in the right directory.

Shooting in the dark like a drunk on one leg I will venture you have to create a link in:

/opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/lib/

for the "missing" library.

Is this how is done? ln -s [path of file] [path symlink]?
Code:
$ ln -s /usr/lib64/libEGL.so.1 /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/lib/libEGL.so.1

Except for libEGL.so.1, that's expected since it needs to set a custom LD_LIBRARY_PATH to work. Try starting it with /opt/Adobe/Reader9/bin/acroread, this bash scripts sets the needed env vars.

Re: Acrobat Reader cannot find libEGL.so.1, F20 64bit system

If Ahmad Samir's and mine suggestions doesn't work I remembered something else.

Permissions, the filesystem, PAM or Selinux may be negating access to the file.

It should have found it in the /usr/lib64 directory that one is a standard, so it is not seeing it for some reason and it hit me that permissions could also be causing this.

The /usr/lib64/libEGL.so.1 is the 64-bit version of libEGL. You said earlier that you have the 32-bit version installed, so just to verify, show the output of this command:
Code:
ls -l /usr/lib/libEGL*
What is the exact command you used to install Acrobat Reader? Whatever it was, it didn't work. So I'd recommend uninstalling it and then re-install it by following the directions in the link I provided before (basically just Steps 1, 2 and 3a).

I had similar issue with Fedora 19 with 64 bit machine. I did the following:

When I gave a link of /usr/lib64/libEGL.so.1 to /opt/Adobe/Reader9/Reader/intellinux/lib/ then again it says some error. Finally I copied /usr/lib/libEGL.so.1 from a 32-bit version of fedora and gave a link to Adobe and it worked. I also gave a link of missing library /lib/libudev.so.0 (copied from 32-bit fedora) to Adobe.

Now I can use Adobe Reader.

Hope this will help.
