[SOLVED] Fedora Core 3 Unable To Access System

I've just installed it, and I'm having trouble with it. when it boots up, it takes me to a text login prompt, and when I type in root, I get:

Id "1" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

Sometimes, the 1 is replaced by some other number. However, I cannot access the post-install GUI.

UPDATE: I've looked around the forums and the error is simular to a error given by the X window system. could it be that?

UPDATE 2: now id "x" has shown, i'm 100% it's to do with the X window system.

UPDATE 3: After some looking around on the internet, i've fixed the problem

Try this:

Insert Fedora Core Rescue CD and go into Rescue mode

Get to a shell and type:

chroot /mnt/sysimage
chkconfig --add xfs
service xfs start

Remove the CD, let the system reboot
Login and run Up2Date and Synaptic to check packages
