Question Where have the grub2 themes gone?

In earlier versions, there was a whole buinch of stuff in /boot/grub2/themes/system - provided by the fedora-logos package.

In F19 it no longer seems to be there. What has happened?

Re: Where have the grub2 themes gone?

I have installed grub2-starfield-theme to get the /boot/grub2/themes/system theme.

Thanks! Hadn't realised they had moved it out to a separate package. Dumb of me, I suppose.

Re: Where have the grub2 themes gone?

I just did a clean install of Fedora 19 RC3 (which is the final I believe) and the grub2 menu was missing the theme. I did the following to try to get it back and still have no theme. Does anyone know how to get it to work?

Code:
su
yum install grub2-starfield-theme
echo "GRUB_THEME=\"/boot/grub2/themes/system/theme.txt\"" >> /etc/default/grub
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

leebickmtu:

To get the theme to work, I commented out the line in /etc/default/grub:

Code:
# GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT="console"

Re: Where have the grub2 themes gone?

I'm using F19 on a UEFI box, and except for the fact that I had to use:
Code:
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg
The theme is working. Just one hitch, I'm getting an error with grub looking for /EFI/fedora/locale/en.gmo, just before the grub screen appears. Is anyone else seeing this error?

Edit: A quick edit before they archive F19, in case anyone is seeing the error. The Arch forums have this for a solution: cp /usr/share/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/mit-krb5.mo /boot/grub/locale/en.gmo. It obviously has to be edited for Fedora, but, it's good start. Haven't tried it yet. OK, now you can archive.

Good tip. Thanks bobclifford. I've been playing with the boot menu theme and couldn't for the life of me figure out why there was no theme at all. I never even noticed that line in /et/default/grub.

Re: Where have the grub2 themes gone?

GoinEasy9:

I am not using UEFI, and do not get an error. I did look at all the grub* packages. grub2-efi does not have any local files. grub2, grub2-tool and grubby do. Perhaps they are missing for grub2-efi.

Oh, I just looked at your post and see the Edit:
