nVidia Proprietary Drivers

Hi Guys

Does anyone know of a bug or problem associated with the nVidia proprietary drivers where the x environment does not want to start?

I Reinstalled fedora 14 about 3 times in the last 3 days and everytime I install the NV Prop drivers I cannot startx. I then decided to install Linux Mint 10 on that drive and as soon as I loaded the driver I cannot start x.

I do want the prop drivers because nouveau is insufficient to run tvtime.

The error in the log files says that it cannot find screen and the server failed to start.

I have a Winfast 210G 512MB Graphics Card. Any Ideas?

Hi cdmac!

Did you follow the Nvidia Guide in this forum?

Can you post your xorg.conf ?

Re: nVidia Proprietary Drivers

Section "Screen"
	Identifier	"Default Screen"
	DefaultDepth	24

Section "Module"
	Load	"glx"

Section "Device"
	Identifier	"Default Device"
	Driver	"nvidia"
	Option	"NoLogo"	"True"
This is my xorg.conf from my mint install (I overwrote the fedora install)
From mint, and when fedora was on, I can get into a terminal but nothing else.

Edit: the xorg.conf file for my ubuntu system looks exactly the same.

Re: nVidia Proprietary Drivers

Follow the instructions in the guide:

After this is done, you may need to remove xorg.conf and let it be re-created.

Make sure to run the mkinitrd as stated at the end of the guide--I remember my eye missing that line once and running into issues.
