reset high PID number

I have samba running on FC2. PID numbers are becoming too high as uptime continues. It is day 2 and I already in 11200 mark. Little annoying to crosscheck samba locks with PID owners with smbstatus. Restarting samba or machine is not an option.

Is there anyway to reset the PID back to at least 4 digits like before?
How long will this continue? I mean if it does not reuse PID, at some point these numbers will grow very big, isn't it?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

As I recall, once the numbers reach 65000 or so (maybe it's more now) the
numbers reset. I do not beleive you can manually reset a PID number.

No, you cannot "reset" a PID - it is what it is when the process started.

The limit on PID numbers increased from 32,000 to 1 billion in 2.6. I don't think they get "reused".
