Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

Hello.

I have an encrypted F26 installed on 80 GB HD... I want to clone it to 250 GB HD.
i was trying to do that with Clonezilla (old version from a few years ago) - with no luck.

does the new Clonezilla version supports cloning encrypted hard drives?

is there any other tool supports cloning encrypted drives?

Thanks

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

have you tried doing a full sector by sector clone? that should just copy across all written data, any MBR or GPT table etc. regardless of the partition layout

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

Keep in mind that by cloning you will create 80 GB on 250 GB. This means that you wll lose the rest 170 GB.
Why don't you create a new encrypted partition on 250G, unlock both disks, copy partition content, fix crypttab file and boot order?

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

by saying "sector by sector clone" are you referring to the dd command?

for example:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=32M

is this should be done from the Fedora's shell?
or from any other Linux live CD (Clonezilla, Ubuntu, etc...)

Thanks

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

you could try dd but use a bs value of 4096

any linux shell even a live cd but make sure to double check the source and destination values are the right way round.

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

dd did the job! (-;

sudo dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=4096 conv=noerror,sync status=progress

Is it possible to extend encrypted partition(s) on F26?
or the only solution is to create new (ext4?) partition on the unallocated space?
and how would i be able to encrypt the new partition?

THANKS

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

It is possible to extend a LUKS partition in LVM (is your system using an LVM layout?) but it certainly isn't easy. look at this answer on ask.fedoraproject.org

If you still have the original disk and haven't destroyed that partition yet you have something to fall back on should it go wrong I guess:

https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/que...#post-id-96579

extending a non-LVM LUKS encrypted drive would work a different way:

https://www.lisenet.com/2013/extend-...uks-partition/

If it were me, I'd create another partition in the free space and use file based encryption:

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD (SOLVED)

Sorry for the late response...
After struggling with this for 2 days, I've decided to choose the easy solution and to create a new partition on the unallocated space.

Thanks Alot for your help

Re: Issues cloning encrypted F26 HD

yeah it looked a nightmare to deal with to be fair. i've also bailed and taken the easy way out with my PC for now. My system was upgraded yesterday from CentOS 7.3 to 7.4. After the event the proprietary AMD driver spat it's dummy out over Xorg 1.19. So while I'm looking into re-installing 7.3 and preventing the system from upgrading Xorg server I've chucked Mint Cinnamon 17.3 with Ubuntu's Trusty HWE kernels back on.
