Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

Hello, I have been trying to trouble shoot a sound issue for a couple of days now. I have an Acer Aspire E5-411 and can not get sound from the speakers. I can blue tooth with my headset and get sound, but can not get sound from the speakers. I have done the below.

lspci -k | grep -A 2 -i audio

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series High Definition Audio Controller (rev 0e)
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device 087f
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel

aplay -l

card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC283 Analog [ALC283 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

/etc/pulse/default.pa
/etc/pulse/default.pa: Permission denied

pulseaudio -k
Nothing happens

sudo alsamixer
ALSA lib pulse.c:243pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Connection refused

lspci -k
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Atom Processor Z36xxx/Z37xxx Series High Definition Audio Controller (rev 0e)

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

(gedit:6001): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to get an inhibit portal proxy: The name org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop is not owned

A page called alsa-base.conf appears, but it is totally blank.

I have the below information as well...

Card: HDA Intel PCH
Chip: Realtek ALC283

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

can you take a screenshot of this command
but upload it to a image sharing site rather than embed it into the page please.

I use imgur.com and don't need to join to upload an image to them.

Code:
alsamixer -c1
if card1 turns out to be your hdmi....then change that code box from -c1 to -c0

Leaping ahead

use the left or right arrow keys to get to each control
press M key to mute or unmute
press pageup/down or up/down arrows to change volume levels

for analog min to unmute would be
master
PCM

and we can advise the others as we them

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

Hello gordon64, I got the screen print of the mixer, but the imgur.com isnt letting me upload a picture unless I join. I presume I was not to insert or attach the image to the post. It has been a while since I have been on a forum. And am a real newbie to Linux, but am liking the operating system so far.

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

well its easy as I have not signed in

go to
imgur.com

click the green button saying new post
http://imgur.com/a/XH9N2

then click browse to your screenshot (normally in Pictures)

file upload dialog .....you click on your preferred image, normally its the one you just took

then click on top RH corner saying open.....meaning open it for upload

######
when image is uploaded, normally a few seconds for a png
look at RH pane for the word "copy"
click that button and the image link is now in your clipboard

then paste than image in your reply

sorry if I am too verbose.

2)

Leaping ahead if instructions are not clear enough and you don't want to join that site, you can join others

such as tinypic.com

3) the FAQ offers some help as well

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/faq.ph...b3_attachments

4) if you must embed an image, I use mtpaint to rescale the image to 800x600 as a jpeg or 600x800 as some people have smaller monitors like tablets etc

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

good for image

hmm thats strange I wonder why HDMI has not grabbed card=0 slot

no need for image what choices do you get when you go
alsamixer -c0 and then press the F6 button?

2) your outputs are unmuted and volumes raised,
hmmm

either this sound card needs firmware or a quirk.
a quirk is used to modprobe the sound device with a setting to force something

I will need to post again

in the meantime run

Code:
journalctl -b
and copy and paste into a code box or a quote box, your sound related stuff

do not play sound using bluetooth and to make it cleaner, sorry, do a reboot and don't do any sound before checking log

I will have more of a look at your device on the search engines

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

Please forgive me, I am not sure where the code box is, I have '0 HDA Intel PCH" selected when I F6. Have default and enter device name to select as well.

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

before doing reply click "go advanced" button

at the top you will see the # symbol

but you can type it in lower case like this
[dode]paste journalctl stuff here[/code]

change D in dode to lowercase c....

I just put on my goggles

your first post says both the HDMI and analog are both sharing card 0 and that ain't right

will have to research that gremlin

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

Ok in the meantime I will show mine,

Code:
journalctl -b | grep card0
May 04 16:22:44 f.e.org kernel: input: HDA Intel HDMI HDMI/DP,pcm=3 as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:03.0/sound/card0/input7
card1 is my analog at the moment.....they can be swapped....but has more lines

can you just say if looking at your log you see any mention that sound device needs firmware?

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

Ok think I found someone with the same issue as you

card0 is both analog and HDMI

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=197020

I will study this shortly

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

OK since we know you want the analog which is hardware card 0 device 0 we can try a home .asoundrc

copy and paste the code box into your terminal
then log out and login....no need to reboot

report if any change after checking your mixer levels please

Code:
echo 'pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 0
}
' > ~/.asoundrc
edit (2)

install Pulseadio volme control

Code:
sudo dnf install pavucontrol
go into pulseaudio volume control found in Applications -> sound

go to config tab and pulldown top line if it is HDMI and turn it off
if hdmi is the second pulldown ...do it

2) leaping ahead you have about 2 things to try here with me.....

if none of them work....then go back into alsamixer -c0 and arrow to the SPDIF and press m to mute it please

EDIT (3)

low priority
in that alsamixer you can arrow to auto mute and press the up or down arrow to enable it

what is supposed to happen, when you plug in headphones....it senses it and mutes the external speakers and ideally your headphone volume could become 70
do not be surprised when you look at alsamixer again.....if headphones now show no volumes.....that is to be expected
---if you leave alsamixer running plug in headphones....you will see the volume level appear

Good luck

Re: Fedora 25 and Acer E5-411 sound issues

Thanks gordon64...I havent done anything, but my headphones and s/pidf now show muted. I am not 100% sure about the echo, is that a termal command? I did install pavucontrol, went into the config tab. I have top line Analog Stereo Duplex and it is selected, the next line is Analog Stereo Output...On the volume control I can see the meter moving, but still can not hear it over the speakers, but when I plug in headphones, the mixer changes and can hear the music through the headphones.
