OpenVPN service is dead

I am running F13 kernel 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64 The services GUI shows OpenVPN as enabled and dead.

If I restart it from a terminal it shows

Shutting down openvpn: [ OK ]
Starting openvpn: [ OK ]

but when I check the status from the terminal it shows

openvpn: service not started

I'm sure it worked when I first set it up but I have not used it for a while.

I had to manually install system-config-services and Samba. Again I am sure Samba was there.

Any ideas as to how to get openvpn working. It works perfectly in F12 which I also have installed as part of a multi boot machine.

Re: OpenVPN service is dead

Sorry. I assumed you were running it as a service. haven't a clue wrt network manager. If you have all your crt and keys selected then launch selinux troubleshooter as it may prevent NM from accessing VPN secrets from home folders. Past that, I don't know.

Re: OpenVPN service is dead

thanks beaker. I had already tried with selinux disabled, to take it out of the equation, and it made no difference.

Presumably it could be a problem with the current version of network manager. I'll try creating another connection in Network Manager.

Re: OpenVPN service is dead

Just a guess or shot but how about permissions? If the keys and certificates were moved, are they holding onto the original and possibly wrong uid? chown & chmod? NM broke again is likely closer to the truth.

Might be easier to create a server.conf for the connection and run it as a service.

Re: OpenVPN service is dead

The keys and certificates are the same ones in the same directory regardless of which OS I am using. They work fine in Fedora 12, Ubuntu 9.04, Windows XP Pro and Windows Server 2003. It's no major problem as I can use F12 when I need the VPN.

I would just like to get it working in F13. The nmb service is also dead on F13.
