FC3 slows down when Network cable is connected but is fast when disconnected

I am running FC3 for 64 bit processors on my Sun W2100z

Heres the thing:

When I boot FC3 with the network cable plugged in (i.e. letting the boot script configure the network connection) everything is slow, from login to opening a terminal window and starting other programs.

However if I boot with the network cable UNPLUGGED, everything is noticeablly faster. I then plug the cable in and run /sbin/dhclient to get my internet cable and Fedora stays fast.

Any explanations? If someone could help me modify my boot script to ensure this works faster, it would be appreciated.

Without any more information, I'd suspect things hanging on DNS queries. If the network doesn't come up, the queries will fail immediately, if it is up but configured incorrectly the DNS queries can take a long time to time out.
