bash: psxy: command not found...

Hi there

I am using Fedora-25. I am running GMT script and in command line i am getting this

bash: psxy: command not found...
bash: pstext: command not found...
bash: psxy: command not found...

I have .bash_profile in which this is set---------->

# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
. ~/.bashrc
fi

# User specific environment and startup programs

PATH=$PATH:$HOME/.local/bin:$HOME/bin

export PATH

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

I have also added ----->

PATH=$PATH:/bin

export PATH

PATH=$PATH:/sbin

export PATH

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Also i have GMT installed.

Package GMT-5.2.1-3.fc24.x86_64 is already installed, skipping.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

also:

$ echo $PATH
/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/home/atul/.local/bin:/home/atul/bin:/bin:/sbin

Earlier i was using Fedora-18 and GMT was working just fine.

What to do?

Thanks in advance

Re: bash: psxy: command not found...

These are tools for Postscript.
According to rpm-find they are in the Generic Mapping Tools package (GMT)

That's very old fashioned thinking.
The current model is that it's holographic nested virtualities of turtles, all the way down.

Re: bash: psxy: command not found...

So there is something corrupt in GMT package? Need to reinstall it? Also, is it possible that since the GMT package i am using is for fc24 version and there is no available GMT package for fc25 version. Could this be a problem?

Can you give more information about "I am running GMT script", what is and where did you get it?

Shell tip, there's no need for all those redundant exports of PATH.
Just string all your changes once on one line and export it once.

GMT is Generic Mapping Tools (a software for making nice images) made by team from University of Hawaii. GMT software is popular among researchers and in academia. GMT plots are considered superior to all other alternatives.

GMT has many commands like psxy, psbasemap and so on.

But the point is why psxy is not recognized in Fedora-25 when i am using same script successfully on Fedora-18.

Done

Thanks

Re: bash: psxy: command not found...

I am not completely sure of why there is not such executables provided by Fedora. I have never used GMT so this does not help. I found some clues though.

It seems commands that you are looking for are just symbolic links to main executable (gmt) and are disabled in Fedora on compilation time with CMAKE flag GMT_INSTALL_MODULE_LINKS.

Those "commands" seems to be gmt modules and can be invoked by "gmt <modulename>".

This solves it. I was using this in my gmt script before:

psxy example.txt -R0/24/0/7000 -JX4i/4i -Ba3f3:"":/a1000f1000:"Alpha":WeSn -Sc0.07c --FONT_TITLE=18 --FORMAT_GEO_MAP=ddd:mmF --FONT_LABEL=12 --FONT_ANNOT_PRIMARY=12 \
-P -Wthinner,black, -K -X2i -Y2i --PS_MEDIA=A1 > compare_Q.ps

After putting gmt in front of psxy:

gmt psxy example.txt -R0/24/0/7000 -JX4i/4i -Ba3f3:"":/a1000f1000:"Alpha":WeSn -Sc0.07c --FONT_TITLE=18 --FORMAT_GEO_MAP=ddd:mmF --FONT_LABEL=12 --FONT_ANNOT_PRIMARY=12 \
-P -Wthinner,black, -K -X2i -Y2i --PS_MEDIA=A1 > compare_Q.ps

It works just fine.

So basically somebody made changes the way GMT works.

Thanks
