Kodak Verite printer issues

So, I picked up this Kodak Verite 55 XL printer. I looked ahead of time and saw that it had a linux driver. Should have looked closer. There is a .deb file and ppd driver file. I followed the directions that came with the postscript print files, but it still haven't been able to establish a connection to the printer. Keeps telling me that the appropriate files could not be located.

I've been researching this for a week. I've seen references to an .rpm file for this printer, but I haven't been able to find it. It's supposed to be on the Funai site, but if it's there, it's pretty well hidden. I've looked in other .rpm repositories but no luck so far.

Using Fedora 25 on an ASUS K550C laptop.

Any help would be appreciated.

The command alien can convert between various package formats such as .deb and .rpm allowing you to convert your .deb to an rpm package.

It is in the nux-desktop repository. I have it installed on Centos 7.

$ yum info alien

Re: Kodak Verite printer issues

Oh well. I was able to convert the file from debian to .rpm and ended up in library hell. Kept saying I didn't have the correct libraries. Tried installing the libraries one at a time but still no joy.

Wish the idiots at Kodak would just offer and .rpm file. I will try to install it manually. That should be fun.

Re: Kodak Verite printer issues

seems like kodak allowed funai to build these printers using old lexmark technologies and shove their logo on them. If you could establish the generic funai model number there may be a way to locate an rpm that way.

Re: Kodak Verite printer issues

You may be able to get it working with just the PPD file. Put that in say /etc/cups/ppds and run (if it were a network printer on 192.168.1.50) sudo lpadmin -p Kodak -E -v socket://192.168.1.50 -P /etc/cups/ppds/Kodak.ppd

Then, if it's your default printer

sudo lpadmin -d Kodak

The -E is for enable (maybe no longer necessary) -v for device url -P for the ppd file location. (-p for the printer).
