bluetooth
wifi

Current OS is ubuntu 13.10 64bits
i have used fedora in the past, and want to use it again.

It's very important that the wifi adapter is working out of the box, without installing extra rpm's.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

Most straight forward test of hardware would be to boot up Live ISO

I would offer, that the hardware seems to have good base requirements for Linux, in that it is intel processor with intel graphics (you do not have to worry about hybrid graphic support).

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

another option would be to try running the LiveCD for Fedora 20 and find out without actually having to install it.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

I've been running Fedora on my Dell Laptop for some time, and just upgraded via fedup to 20. No problems, and didn't even have to recompile my wirless driver (wl.ko). No problems so far.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

I've been running Fedora for a number of years.
Current laptop is a Dell Latitude E6410.

All base hardware runs from baremetal install, including the built in webcam.

I am having a problem with an external DisplayLink universal docking station, but it is new equipment that I have never used before.

My old laptop, Dell Latitude D830, has F17 on it and it runs well. Again that is from a bare metal install. I even have the nVidia drivers install as per leigh123's excellent post.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

I've been running Fedora on this Dell XPS 15z (sort of a Macbook Pro clone) since F18, and it works great. WiFi, Bluetooth, audio, USB, etc. etc. all worked right out of the box. The only issue's I had were the built in SD card reader did not auto-mount in F18, but that's fixed in F20, and the machine uses "Optimus" so I had to learn how to set up "Bumblebee" to manage the graphics adapters.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

Did any of you guys have issues with your webcams? I have the XPS 12 and have a heck of a time with the uvcvideo driver. Open cheese and get the lovely green lines.
Attempted a few fixes but to no avail
# cat /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf
options uvcvideo quirks=0x100
#options uvcvideo nodrop=1 timeout=6000

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

linux supports hardware going back as far as Pentium 4 and AMD Sempron for example onwards. glad your notebook works okay though.

My Fujitsu, now just over 2 years old has Ivy Bridge too. Out of interest which wireless network device is fitted to your Dell? the specifications for that latitude lists several options.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

maybe fedora1982 does not realize he/she is posting to a 2014 post regarding F20.

Maybe starting a new thread might help.

Re: Fedora on dell laptop

not really, they aren't asking a question, just reporting something works.
