F22 Reaches EOL on 7/19/16, per Dennis Gilmore

Greetings.

This is a reminder email about the end of life process for Fedora 22.

Fedora 22 will reach end of life on 2016-07-19, and no further updates
will be pushed out after that time. Additionally, with the recent
release of Fedora 24, no new packages will be added to the Fedora 22
collection.

Please see https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DNF_system_upgrade for more
information on upgrading from Fedora 22 to a newer release.

Dennis

It was a great release, I preferred it over F23 but F24 is turning out to be a good replacement. Obviously there are a few noteworthy changes (a bluez policy change that I've had to create a udev rule for, using yumex from COPR because it's been dropped officially, some minor GTK theme related niggles caused by packages and not mate-themes) but overall it's a decent stable release

In time all of these should hopefully be addressed to. There is an imminent patch for the FF47 GTK theme issue for example, it's being built today.

Synaptic is in the repos, as well. I've only dabbled with it, but it seems to work fine here in RPMLand. There really should be a supported GUI package manager that deals with individual packages and allows us to see what's going on, or is about to go on.

I'm beginnng to be annoyed by theme problems. Seems very much cart-before-horse business.

As of the 19th of July 2016, Fedora 22 has reached its end of life for
updates and support. No further updates, including security updates,
will be available for Fedora 22. A previous reminder was sent on 22nd
of June [0]. Fedora 23 will continue to receive updates until
approximately one month after the release of Fedora 25. The
maintenance schedule of Fedora releases is documented on the Fedora
Project wiki [1]. The Fedora Project wiki also contains instructions
[2] on how to upgrade from a previous release of Fedora to a version
receiving updates.

I hated to see it get dropped completely form the repos so quickly. yum-deprecated and yumex were dropped, in my opinion, before dnf is even ready for a final release. it's still in late beta stages to me.

Pushing some apps out quickly is ok, but one that can (and will) hose the entire system if something goes wrong needs much more testing.

I still use yum-deprecated, and only use dnf on one of my test machines. Even after several Fedora releases as being the default, dnf still has issues that yum-deprecated flows right through without a problem. (My test box has been hosed by dnf twice since I went to F24, the one using yum-deprecated hasn't been hosed by yum ever)

Edit:
I still haven't found a good way to get dnf to install a list of packages like I did using yum shell.

Indeed, which is why I'm exceedingly grateful to Wolfgang for providing the full deprecated yum package manager set. He's also kindly recoded a version of mintmenu (available on that COPR repo) because the latest release on the main servers has yumex-dnf as a dependency
