Re: my printer/scanner is not reconnised in fed 20

Aaah. I had that problem on a canon which I resolved by using command line control:
Code:
scanimage -h
as root, which worked.
Code:
scanimage -L
should tell you what devices are available. It's command-line scanning which is perhaps not what you want, and perhaps not an appropriate solution to the problem, but it worked for my purposes. You might need to get into the scanimage manpage if you take this route. With hp, you might need to install some hp specific stuff, but I can't help with that.

I had an HP scanner in the past that needed the package libsane-hpaio installed to let you scan without being root.

also it may help installing the package sane-backends-drivers-scanners. I found that even though simple scan was installed on MATE Spin I couldn't scan anything with my Canoscan LiDE 50 until I installed this.
