Printer Scanner Fax combos

I currently have a Brother MFC-240C. I got it working in Fedora a while back it has a lacking feature for ink level. Recently my wife was printing to some really thick paper and the printer was having problems grabbing the paper. I got it working but am looking at printers that might work as well or better.

Features I like.
Double sided auto document feeder.
Color prints
Prints in linux
Scans in linux
Up to 9600dpi scanning
Fax works with poor quality phone line (able to use it over obi200 a phone to ip converter)
Programmable scan buttons from the printer. (I can use the scan to email, scan to ocr, and scan to image options from the front of the printer)

I want to keep those features and add the following

Get ink level in linux
better paper feeding mechanism that would support the heavier paper.
Better photo quality prints
Inexpensive ink.

Any helpful suggestions welcome. :-)
