Howto install application from CD

I am working with Fedora 17 (need early version) and failed to install needed application from CD on initial install. How can I install an application from the CD that I missed initially?

Re: Howto install application from CD

First off, this belongs in the "EOL (End Of Life) Versions" sub-forum. Expect a moderator to move it there soon.

Secondly, if you installed from a "Live" iso image from USB/CD/DVD, then everything on the disk was installed initially and there are no other files/packages on the install media to get.

Thirdly, using yum won't work as F17 is well past EOL and the F17 repositories have been moved to the archives. Either modifying the yum Fedora repos to point to the archives to get what you need, or using a browser to peruse the archives and pulling the package(s) down from your browser, or going to the koji build server and finding the package(s) there that you need is what you'll have to do.

And fourthly, what application is it that you're after?

Re: Howto install application from CD

Actually, once Fedora is installed, you should install applications from the online repos instead of the install CD.

They have changed the URL for the online repos, but they are still available. No NEW updates are being put into them, but all of the updates that were there when F17 went end of life are still in there.

You do need to change your /etc/yum.repos.d files to point to the archive repo.

change /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo:

comment out the mirrorlist line
uncomment the baseurl line, but change it to:

(It pretty much is just inserting the /archive directory into the existing url.

Do the same thing for the updates repo.

change /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo

comment out the mirrorlist url line
uncomment the baseurl line and change to:

You should then be able to install/update packages from the online repo.

Moved thread to EOL
