Gnome 3.19.3

hi,

The window title bar is very large in this version of Gnome and i search to reduce that.

I've tried with a gtk.css file :
.header-bar.default-decoration {
padding-top: 1px;
padding-bottom: 1px;
border: none;
background-image: linear-gradient(to bottom,
shade(@theme_bg_color, 1.05),
shade(@theme_bg_color, 0.99));
box-shadow: inset 0 1px shade(@theme_bg_color, 1.4);
}

.header-bar.default-decoration .button.titlebutton {
padding-top: 1px;
padding-bottom: 1px;
}

with no result

Any other ideas ?

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

I copied the contents of ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css from my F23 system to my rawhide VM, and it didn't work either. I hope it's just the wrong location, or maybe the wrong contents. But the devs could have disabled it, which would really suck.

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

Try something like

Code:
#GtkHeaderBar {
    padding: 3px;
}

#GtkHeaderBar * {
    padding: 2px;
    margin: 0px;
}

#GtkHeaderBar GtkButton {
    padding: 3px;
}

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

Hi Dies, I put that in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css, but nothing changed. What did I miss?

P.S. I tried it without that extraneous "*", and with and without the leading "#"s, still no change.

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

The asterisk and pound symbol are intentional.

Did you remove the other rules referencing headerbars?

I'll have to load it up when I get a chance. My app had this issue with 3.18 and those rules worked but may need tweaking for 3.19

Also, assumed your using default theme.
Have you tried any others yet? Arc, Vertex, etc.

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

I tried it with only your contents, and with the only the contents of my current file F23 file:
Code:
.header-bar.default-decoration {
padding-top: 2px;
padding-bottom: 2px;
}

.header-bar.default-decoration .button.titlebutton {
padding-top: 1px;
padding-bottom: 1px;
}
Neither worked.

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

Sorry, my rawhide is borked. Tried to spin up a fresh one but repos wouldn't cooperate.

Anyway, I see this is marked solved but didn't see a solution.

This may help others Reddit thread with possible solutions

Re: Gnome 3.19.3

I tweaked the settings in LapoC's post and shrank title bars down to what I like with bold 10 pt font titles. This works in 3.19.90:
Code:
/* shrink headebars */
headerbar {
    min-height: 24px;
    padding-left: 2px; /* same as childrens vertical margins for nicer proportions */
    padding-right: 2px;
}

headerbar entry,
headerbar spinbutton,
headerbar button,
headerbar separator {
    margin-top: 2px; /* same as headerbar side padding for nicer proportions */
    margin-bottom: 2px;
}

/* shrink ssd titlebars */
.default-decoration {
    min-height: 0; /* let the entry and button drive the titlebar size */
    padding: 2px
}

.default-decoration .titlebutton {
    min-height: 16px; /* tweak these two props to reduce button size */
    min-width: 16px;
}
