Issues with intel driver's backlight

Hi. I have an issue with fedora 25 and my laptop Gateway NV78. The issue is that when fedora loads the screen is dark (you can see everything working but very dark). I've searched on google for days trying to fix it but no luck. Everything points to the intel driver. When I run: lspci | grep -e "VGA" the result is VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07).
I followed a lot of suggestions: tweaking xorg.conf, adding scripts to /etc/X11, tweaking grub, etc but the only way I can load Fedora (not just Fedora, every Linux distro) is with nomodeset. I even load Fedora in level 3, uninstall intel driver and resintalling it. I even tried xbacklight as one of the suggestions and nothing. Can anyone help?

Re: Issues with intel driver's backlight

And finally, something that works (at least for me):

Follow instructions on this link: http://j.barrettcoats.com/blog/2013/...-nv78-laptops/ but don't update grub with the instructions in that page. Use this instead: sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg or sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg.

As soon as I created the script and executed it, brightness was fixed. The rest is for the script to run on startup.

Re: Issues with intel driver's backlight

thanks very much for sharing the solution you eventually found elsewhere. your hardware was only sold in one region and is now fairly old so the chances of anyone else experiencing the same issue with fedora and having a solution to share via this forum are slim unfortunately.

Re: Issues with intel driver's backlight

Actually the issue happens with every linux distro. The problem is (maybe a bug) the intel driver. And yes, it's an old laptop. That fix I found was for Arch Linux but worked on Fedora 25. Sadly it doesn't completely work on other distros I've tested. Still get black display at login. Since I'm sticking with Fedora on that laptop my issue is solved.
