Question NFSv4 and rpcbind

In light of this news about the vulnerability of rpcbind

Do we need rpcbind when running NFSv4 servers? Most sources seem to say v4 doesn't need it. But after stopping rpcbind, restarting the NFS service seems to start rpcbind as well.
