Xfce with KDE apps issue

Hello

I have a small problem, since upgrading to FC25, the "inside border" (widget?) sector of Konsole has gone "white" on me. Kate as well.

I run lxdm -> Xfce
but I do use several KDE apps. (Konqueror, Kate, Konsole)

Since I work mostly in the dark, that is a serious issue for me.
Someone at KDE a few months back heard my cries for Konqueror to inherit the widget color from the Desktop, and it seems to have worked, as the inside is now "dark" like I have on my Xfce settings.

But what worked well in FC24 with the colors, has now gone opposite on FC25.
Here a screenshot showing Konsole and Xfce Terminal.

Note how the section where the menubar is in Konsole is light in color, compared to the dark menubar in Xfce Terminal.

I tried KDE Settings
I tried a lot of Appearance settings (Dusk, Dark, Black whatever)
Always logging out and logging back in, gives you the proper "active" setting.

To no avail.

Any hints ?

Re: Xfce with KDE apps issue

qt applications won't ever exactly match GTK applications, but you can get some things much better.

There were changes to both qt and GTK that caused some theme issues. Have you tried using qgnomeplatform to help bridge the gap?

install qgnomeplatform if you don't already have it installed, and then make sure you set the environment variable QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qgnomeplatform

This should make your qt applications look a lot closer to the GTK application, but you won't ever get exact, there will be little minor differences no matter what.

Re: Xfce with KDE apps issue

Well,

sorry but that didn't do anything noticeable for Kate and Konsole (didn't try any other app)
soooo... this is what I have done now:

1. logged out of everywhere
2. logged in on console (ALT-F4)
rm -rf .cache
rm -rf .config
rm -rf .cache
rm -rf .kde
rm -rf /tmp/ksocket-bobx/
rm -rf /tmp/kde-bobx/
rm -rf /var/tmp/kdecache-bobx/
rm -rf .DCO*
rm -rf .gtk*
rm -rf .icons
rm -rf .qt
rm -rf .themes
rm -rf .thumbnails/
rm -f .xfce*
3. logged back in Xfce, noticed everything has reset, except there were 3 or 4 message popups saying "Kde Settings has crached file report ?" funny.
4. Set up my environment nicely and dark in Xfce (with Anti-Alias Disabled, which I like), noticed that Kate and Konsole do not follow the System settings, so they remain with Anti-Alias Enabled. Also noticed that both have the light background. Konqueror on the other hand, does inherit the System Settings from Xfce. (EDIT: on another laptop, Konqueror also remains like Kate and Konsole, so I will use that PC to test from now on, since it's more consistent)

5. Logged out
6. Logged in using the Plasma Desktop
7. Set all the settings under KDE which I want, dark background, Anti-Alias on, but exclude fonts from 2px until 60px , with full Hinting (which makes the letters crisp and nice). Both, Kate and Konsole worked fine, exactly like I want them.
8. Logged out
9. Logged back into Plasma to make sure everything works. Good.

10. Logged out, and went back into Xfce.
11. Launched Konsole and Kate, and it's back to crappy fonts, and light background.

lol, so at this point I will just dedicate one of my myriads of laptops I got sitting around to "test" until it works.
I reckon username test , passord test may do the job hehe.

Re: Xfce with KDE apps issue

Update: doing this the right way:

strace konsole 2> log.txt

Let's see what happens, I will post my results here, one thing I found right off the bat is
open("/usr/share/qt5/qtlogging.ini",.....

which contains
[Rules]
*.debug=false

I wil change that to true and see what happens.

Re: Xfce with KDE apps issue

Y0000000H000000000000000 !!!!!!!!

found the solution !

If you work in the dark, like myself, here is what you do.
1. Xfce
2. Go to www.xfce-look.org and download yourself pOSv1 , and Ambiance Dark Red
3. open a file manager where both files are visible
4. Drag them into an open "Settings->Appearance" dialog.
5. Set Ambiance Dark Red there, then close the dialog
6. Go to "Settings-> Window Manager" and select pOSv1

Test regular apps, like Xfce Terminal, it should be nice and dark (if you don't like the Menu letters all shrunk together, then select Adwaita (dark version) in Appearance).

Now !! the secret to get the QT-BASED apps (Kate, Konsole) also dark.

yum install qt5-qtstyleplugins qtcurve-qt5 qt5ct
cp /etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc ~/.config/xfce4/xinitrc
edit .config/xfce4/xinitrc
add this at the top:
QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=qt5ct
export QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME
Now , log out, and log back into your Xfce
open a terminal, and execute: qt5ct
you should see this here:

Now change your style to "gtk2" , you will see that it changes to dark. Click on OK, or Apply and then OK

Now, test Kate, and Konsole

HA LE LUYAH !

Re: Xfce with KDE apps issue

Just to add invaluable information, I found this on the web, to disable anti-alias in the QT5 apps, do the wollowing:

Quote:
You can try this fonts.conf configuration (create file under ~/.config/fontconfig/ ) if you have problem with Qt5 apps antialiasing first, before trying qt5ct:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM 'fonts.dtd'>
<fontconfig>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="rgba">
<const>rgb</const>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="hinting">
<bool>true</bool>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle">
<const>hintfull</const>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="antialias">
<bool>false</bool>
</edit>
</match>
<match target="font">
<edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter">
<const>lcddefault</const>
</edit>
</match>
</fontconfig>

After you do that, then run qt5ct , and Apply .
