Talking Evolution and Emoticons

Hi all,

Question about Evolution and how it handles emoticons (Or how ever you say that.)

My wife sends me e-mail from her work and she uses Outlook. When she puts in a smiley face like the following:

or

I see a 'J' or a 'P' in the e-mail. I did some research and found out that these fonts are part of the mscorefonts - something called wingdings(?)

So, I installed and ran fc-cache and Evolution still shows a 'J' or a 'P' when she sends e-mail.

How do I go about getting Evolution to see the correct emoticons... As an aside, Kmail processes these fonts in Mint 17 KDE. I prefer Gnome on my laptop, so I use Evolution here.

Thanks!
Joe

Yikes! Over 100 views and no one knows about this? I love finding bugs :-D...

I suppose I will put in a bug request...

Thanks!

Re: Evolution and Emoticons

The easiest solution would be to ask your wife to change the autocorrect options in outlook in her system ... Don't know if that's what you want to hear, but that, in my opinion, is the easiest.

Re: Evolution and Emoticons

Well, this is a work system, so I don't think she has access to allot of the settings (GPO limits). She tried to make some other, simple changes, and was rejected.

Its not a big deal, most of the people she e-mails gets the graphics rendered properly, it was just me wanteing to get it fixed .

If I forward something she sends to me to someone else, I have to modify the e-mail also, so thats a little inconvenient.

If I just knew what made it work in Mint Linux, I could install/setup a config to make it work. I'll keep poking around and see what a bug report does.

Thanks for the reply!
Joe
