mp3 Playback

Hi,

I have recently done a fresh install of Fedora 25. But I am having trouble with mp3 playback.

If I open an mp3 in VLC player, it works ok. But Amarok, Rhythmbox and Gnome Music all do nothing or worse crash without an error, when I attempt to play an mp3.

Shortly after the install, I followed a post-installation guide, to set up the RPM Fusion repositories and to install all the free and non-free media codecs. Perhaps, this is where I went wrong, and I might have installed something I shouldn't have which has caused some sort of conflict.

Can anybody point in the right direction as to how to begin diagnosing this problem?

Re: mp3 Playback

For diagnosing the problem go through your dnf history.

Code:
sudo dnf history
as Vlc was installed properly i think you need to install relevant packages for mp3 playback.

Re: mp3 Playback

Amarok uses phonon which has two backends, phonon-backend-gstreamer and phonon-backend-vlc. Whereas Rhythmbox and Gnome Music use gstreamer.

Gstreamer is installed by default, so I am guessing that's the backend Amarok is using. You can install the phonon-backend-vlc package from the rpmfuion repos and that probably should sort out Amarok.

As for Rhythmbox and gnome-music, start either of them from terminal and then try to play an mp3 file and post the output to an online pastebin and post a link to it here. Hopefully that should include some clue as to what's going wrong.

Re: mp3 Playback

Thank you both very much for your responses, I really appreciate your help!

Ahmad Samir, you were right, after installing that package and re-configuring the Amarok backend to vlc, that fixed Amarok. Thank you very much.

As for, the gstreamer problem, and not being able to play mp3s in Rhythmbox and Gnome Music. I'd like to dig a little further and be able to fix this.

topiwala, this is the output of the dnf transaction where I tried to install all the relevant codecs. Did I miss one? Or do something wrong?

Code:

Re: mp3 Playback

Have you installed the ugly package?

Code:
dnf install gstreamer1-plugins-ugly
