Secondary groups (e.g. wheel) not showing after kde login on F25

Hi all,

After installing F25 on a system that was running F20, I have noticed (amongst other problems) that when I log in using KDE Plasma, only my primary group is being picked up. This means that I can't sudo for example. If I log in via the console I get all my groups.

Example of "id" command after logging in with kde:

uid=500(matthew) gid=500(matthew) groups=500(matthew) context=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023

and when logging in on console:

uid=500(matthew) gid=500(matthew) groups=500(matthew),10(wheel),12(mail) context=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023

It seems that the kde login is not picking up the extra groups somehow, which is really wierd. Any thoughts on what might be going on, or how to fix it?

Many thanks

Re: Secondary groups (e.g. wheel) not showing after kde login on F25

Are you using X11 or Wayland ?

If you are using Wayland it is a known issue that Wayland does not use a login shell

From https://wiki.gnome.org/Initiatives/Wayland/SessionStart

Traditional session setup

Under X11, starting a graphical session typically involves running a tower of shell scripts starting with /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc or similar. Another noteworthy point is that the shell running these scripts is a login shell, which means that is sources /etc/profile, ~/.profile, and so on.

I don't know specifically what is happening but there are references to /usr/bin/id in /etc/profile which isn't sourced when Wayland starts.

Thanks - I'm running X11 rather than Wayland I believe. The problem mysteriously went away, so I'm not sure what was causing it either.
P.S. Nice username!
