In addition to the link provided by stoat above, I’d mention that I used the Windows port of this utility from the Cygwin project. sha256sum.exe can be found in the coreutils package. I don’t remember how I did to get just this utility, without downloading too much of the whole Cygwin pack. (Let me take a look… searching… found… the only files I needed are cygwin1.dll, cygintl-8.dll, cygiconv-2.dll and sha256sum.exe.)

There is another Windows port of the coreutils, from the GNUWin32 project. Unfortunately, it currently provides a very old version of coreutils, with no sha256/384/512sum.exe. I already filed a feature request on Sourceforge http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func...17&atid=379176 to update this package, but no luck until now. Maybe if there are enough votes/ interest…
