Weird backlight controls by KDE

On GNOME and other GTK based DE, they seem to have proper control of backlight...

On KDE, they handle backlight controls by putting shades all over the screen to "dim" the screen while having the backlight full blast on my laptop

It just feels weird, and power hog, not sure a bug or not...
