Kmenuedit changes appear to be done but are not saved

I am trying to add a couple of user menu items using kmenuedit and all goes apparently OK but after a save and exit the system menu is not updated. Has anyone any ideas please? This is on F16.

I confirm this issue on a fresh installation of FC5. There are error messages visible in the CLI when trying to insert a new menu item through the process of trying to save the changes. They are similar or identical to this:

Code:
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
  Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty)
  Resource id: 0x480009f

I also see that error when you click on save plus there was another error which said the application was likely to misbehave!!! I'll boot back into F16 and see if I can reproduce this other error as well.

Certainly kmenuedit will not save any changes and display them on the system menu.

Stuart

Edit: Here is the other error message

Code:
[stuart@Crowhill ~]$ kmenuedit
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
[stuart@Crowhill ~]$

Just decided to turn off SeLinux and now I can add menu items with no problem at all so it is the SeLinux policy which is causing this issue.

After today's upgrade of KDE to 4.7.3, I can add to the menu without fussing with SELinux. Heck, I can't even find SELinux now -- only the "troubleshooter." Where is it hiding? system-config-selinux is not found.

David

Edit: Hmm, the name has changed to policycoreutils-gui. I didn't get the memo.

SELinux gui tool is policycoreutils-gui. Just yum install it.

Re: Kmenuedit changes appear to be done but are not saved

Well I reactivated SeLinux in permissive mode and can still mess around with the menus. Rather expected that, however I was expecting to see a message somewhere if I got a conflict which would be rejected if not in permissive mode, at least that's what I thought would happen. So far I cant find any. Is there a separate log for this or would it be in syslog?

Since I run now with Selinux disabled I'll mark as solved.
