How to play all formats of audio and video files

I am running fedora 16 32 bit distro and I would love to play videos and music of different file types ie wmv, avi, mp3. All that is available under the sun. I tried to do so by this command.

[root@localhost john]# yum groupinstall "Sound and Video"
I did installed different media players, but I am still not able to play mp3 and avi formats. Please help me, thanks.

Re: How to play all formats of audio and video files

Go here, do as it says: http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
After that, depending on what players you use, just do:

yum install gstreamer* xine-lib-extras-freeworld smplayer vlc

gstreamer has a ton of plugins, I don't remember all of them. It will also install it's devel, but who cares. Install it only if you use gstreamer framework based players, like Totem.

I'm puzzled though. You have ~850 posts here and don't know how to get mp3 playback? Are you kidding? If yes, than you got me. Congrats.

Re: How to play all formats of audio and video files

I used to recommend AutoPlus to install all of the extra codecs, but since Dangermmouse is having some health issues and it's not available anymore, I am now recommending Easylife.

Go to the top of the screen, and select Fedora Set-Up Guides There is a link to the Easylife page up there.
