Question Installing F 24 ruined boot-loader so i cant boot Win7.

Hi there.
Recently I installed fedora24 after my fedora 23 stopped working. I said to myself that maybe a sign to upgrade to 24. So I did. Love it. Only now i don't see windows 7 in boot-loader(Legacy-Bios) menu. How can I get it back ?

I would try running grub2-mkconfig again and see if it finds your windows install. The exact way to run it depends on what type of boot you are, legacy or UEFI.

Legacy
Code:
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
UEFI
Code:
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg

Hope this helps.

Use a partitioning tool (such as GParted) to look at the partitions and verify that the windows partition is still there and didn't inadvertently get reformatted during the F24 install? If it is still there, check Bugzilla for grub2 os-prober bugs?

Do you have the Windows 7 partition mounted when you run grub2-mkconfig? It should be so that os-prober can see it.

Also, if you have Windows 7 installed uEFI, and Fedora installed non-uEFI, you are going to have problems.

Shouldn't be needed, os-prober does the mounting itself, at least for my fedora partitions.

I bet that there is something to do with this. That is why it can't see it, because it doesn't look for it at EFI partition. You can confirm it by listing your partitions, if there is a EFI partition present then this is probably the case.

When you boot up, is there a BIOS option, perhaps by pressing ESC (or some F# key), before the grub menu appears, that allows you to boot into Windows and / or a Windows repair partition?

Re: Installing F 24 ruined boot-loader so i cant boot Win7.

Hi, and thanks for replies.
I reinstall fedora and win again cause I find out that I install fedora while Windows 7 was in hibernation, at least that what I think was a problem.
So all is ok now.
Well except that fedora 24 gnome system setting after dnf update stoped working.
