wine not starting properly on fedora17

this is my first Fedora 17
I just merged from Ubuntu yesterday
so it could be not everything was installed for gaming - don't know

I have followed this guide:

for starters: "wine boot" doesn't work - witch is installed with wine or I don't even know what it should do

but the thing is I can run setup and install games BUT when running them I get problems they don't even want to get started

or is it firewall that I first see in linux or is it selinux witch I see it first too and I'm completely unfamiliar with them

IF this output error helps knowing what's going on
Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x7c5d3000 in 32-bit code (0xf759fbe6).

Re: wine not starting properly on fedora17

Given that Wine installs and runs, but the problem is when you try to run certain Windows software, it doesn't seem to be an issue with the Fedora component of Wine.

You'd probably have more luck debugging this by making the same post on the Wine forums. They are not very active forums as far as chatting goes but people help troubleshoot if they can.

Before you do that, check the Wine AppDB for reports of how other people go. If the game doesn't run on Wine it just doesn't work and you're out of luck. The AppDB page may have additional steps which you need to run to make the game work.

Check the "Steam Games on Linux" blog to see if there are any tips for your particular game as well.

Re: wine not starting properly on fedora17

well the thing is this was installed with winetricks
and it doesn't even run

and I saw in wineHQ that stuff runs better on fedora than ubuntu

that's why I asked if there's anything else to be installed on fedora for gaming than only wine

I know for ubuntu there's a restrictid hardware gui for my ati card well I haven't found anything like that here not sure is it installed by default or how

well this is my day# 3 on fedora I'm still trying to get used to it and would appreciate on some help on it

and ofc not to forget it worked in ubuntu

Re: wine not starting properly on fedora17

There's no auto-installer for the ATI drivers. That is potentially the source of your problems.

You can setup rpmfusion and do a yum search catalyst to find the packages to install. I believe you'll need yum install xorg-x11-drv-catalyst xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs.i686

Or follow the instructions on the unofficial ATI wiki

btw I don't see why a Windows app would run better in Wine on Ubuntu/Fedora. The version of Wine and things like the graphics drivers may make a difference, but if everything else is equal the underlying distro shouldn't really make a difference. That being said, Fedora probably has a later version of Wine than some other distros, due to its focus on using more-recent upstream versions.
