how to capture errors at shutdown

Since the last update, I have been seeing a message posted on the monitor just before the machine turns off.

However it runs by so fast that I get no chance to read it and see if this is a problem or just some patter.

Is there any way to see this message either live or in some log fiile?

I would like to know if there is a problem.

Re: how to capture errors at shutdown

Have you looked in your /var/log/messages log file?

Make a mental note of the time you shut down and then have a look at that file, as I believe most should be logged there.

I haven't looked for a long time, however, I don't think there is a seperate log or file that records the shutdown events?

Re: how to capture errors at shutdown

Thanks - great idea. Did not find anything there, but that was a VERY good way to look for things.
