Updates Testing?

I'm trying to install wine on a pretty fresh install. I've installed all the developtment libraries and tried the classic workaround:
install wine --enablerepo=updates-testing
to no avail. I'm wondering if the updates-testing repo is disabled because of F17 proximity?

Anybody have any info on this or a workaround?
(yum is throwing protected multilib errors during dependency resolution)

Re: Updates Testing?

no, the updates-testing repo isn't disable due to the F17 proximity. The updates-testing for F16 is totally different than updates-testing for F17.

Updates-testing is disabled by default once a version gets to be a stable release. You need to go back and manually enable it if you wish to keep it enabled.

Wine does need and try to install 32 bit libs on a 64 bit system. Without seeing your specific errors, it would be hard to say if there is an actual problem with wine in the repos, or if you have some stale 32 bit libs installed on your system. (Entirely possible if you did a upgrade instead of a clean install)

Ask and you shall receive.. This is a fresh install off of a default install DVD downloaded <10 days ago.

Re: Updates Testing?

Do a general "yum update", so that your installed 64 bit packages listed above match the same version of the 32 bit versions. When ever you have both 32 and 64 bit versions of the same program installed, they MUST be of the same version or else you get the "Protected multilib versions:" error. If for some reason you don't want to do a full update, then at least update the packages listed above.
