Gnomes System-> About this computer-> Resources lies

Ok the gnome panel system-About this computer-resources doesn't give anything remotely accurate about memory usage. I've run brasero where the system has sucked up all available ram and put small bit into swap and the trusty gnome panel stubbornly reports that I'm using 496mb of ram or something rediculous while a terminal $free reports it accurately.

I just pulled up open office writer and system resources say 458mb of ram is in use. $free is reporting slightly over 1 gb of ram usage.

Should I bother bug reporting this to gnome.org?
