fixing bad hdd sectors

Hi there! i have a question about the way bad sectors on the hdd are fixed!
i was using fc6 on my pc and the computer was freezing a lot. i' ve found out that the wd1600js hdd was having about 8kb in bad sectors. i didn't know what to do so i've tried to fix them by using the datalifeguard tools provided on the wdc site( that's a windows application, so i had to reformat the entire drive for saffety regarding the bad sector recovery). it worked after first detecting the problem. my question is:

after fixing the bad sectors on a ntfs partition and i reformated the entire drive with another partitioning system( linux like for example ) are the fixing sectors still fixed or it just destroys everything and i'll have the same problem like before????
i just don't know if the fixing utility mentioned above modifies just the partition table somehow or it tells the hdd and the fixing remains even after a fully reformat?
i've used the windows OS because it was specified on the WDC site that it the problem it's not solved with their software the HDD was good for replacement( which is not the case for me ).
