iMac G3 FC4 Install Sound Issue

Well ... I finally got FC4 to install on my fruit-colored (orange) iMac G3!!!

... but when I reboot, I get an ear-piercing screech from the right speaker ... as you are facing the iMac.

Any ideas on how to fix this situation???? Can I skip the soundcard stage of the post-installation setup???

It sounds like feedback coming from the speaker.

    Help! Eric

I believe that is Tangerine. I wanted one soooo bad. iBook though.

In Gnome, System Menu, Perferrences, Sound

See what it tells you and if you can disable at a test

Also System Menu, Admin, Device Manager has some info. (If FC has that.)

Strangely enough ... after forcing a shut-down about 5-6 times (in order to save my eardrums from being broken) ... I got the iMac to startup in Interactive mode ... and ... voila ... the feedback screech has disappeared. Amazing. Eric

iMac G3 FC4 Install Sound Issue

The problem is the built in microphone.

If you can put up with the feedback noise until the machine boots, once you are logged in you can right click the sound option in the taskbar, open volume control, and turn down the volume on the microphone or mute it.

just out of curiousity, how does one right click when he/she has a one-button-mouse?

iMac G3 FC4 Install Sound Issue

    Good Question!

Sorry I'm a PC Geek that loves to play with Macs. Some day I hope to own a new one.

You may be able to get the menu by using Shift-Click, CTRL-Click, or APPLE-Click.

You can also get to the volume control panel by clicking the main menu or applications menu, then Sound and Video, then Volume Control

    Good Luck!
