    Batch File Rename

    Does anyone know of any batch file renaming software for linux? I'm sure I could do what I want with the command line, but I would prefer a GUI. I have not come across any. I know there is for photo's but I want it for file, like say my mp3 collection. I want to rename a bunch of them instead of "01_artist_songtitle.mp3" to "Artist - 01 - Song Title.mp3" for the entire directory. I have not been able to come across any software like this for linux. When I used to use windows that I have used software to accomplish this. I could probably try to use WINE and emulate some windows software but I was wondering if there was anything native to linux? or possibly java based.

    This is an example of what I want.

    thanks,
    -xamox

    There. Uses Zenity. gunzip it first, had to gzip it so the forum would let it through. This is a total of five lines

    /EDIT: Now with file selection dialogue! Woop.

    Alright, thx dude, I didn't even know anything like this existed. I don't think you updated your code for the file selection dialog. Thanks again.

    It should be:
    Code:
    #!/bin/bash
    from=`zenity --entry --entry-text "Replace this..."`
    to=`zenity --entry --entry-text "With this"`
    for i in `zenity --file-selection --multiple --separator=" "`
    do
    	rename $from $to $i
    done
    the word "seperator" should be "separator" (only one "e")
    Make that change and it works fine.
    I'll give up Linux when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

    Try Gnome Commander http://www.nongnu.org/gcmd/
    You may install it through yum on FC5 and FC6:
    yum install gnome-commander
    It has meta data support for Exif, IPTC and ID3 tags.

    I have just discovered Thunar http://thunar.xfce.org/index.html and I believe it's the best one I have tried so far!

    That's Windows software. Doesn't run on Linux.

    I think a bump is when the original poster does it, not some random poster who is probably getting ready for a spam dump.
