Unhappy Installing Nvidia Drivers: No Nvidia Graphics Driver Found!

    Hi,
I'm trying to install the nvidia linux graphics drivers, however the installation keeps failing with the following message:
    Code:
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This is most likely
because the kernel module was built using the wrong kernel source
files. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files
for your kernel; on Red Hat Linux systems, for example, be sure you
have the 'kernel-source' rpm installed. If you know the correct
kernel source files are installed, you may specify the kernel source
path with the '--kernel-source-path' commandline option.
When I check the install log (/var/log/nvidia.log) I see the following:
    Code:
nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
NVRM: No NVIDIA graphics adapter found!
ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file
'/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions
on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux
           driver download page at www.nvidia.com.
My graphics card is definitely an Nvidia graphics card. How do I get my system to recognise that it's there? It's working perfectly fine using whatever drivers it chose as default, but I'd like to use the nvidia ones.

you need to have the kernel source where the installer can find it , usually it should be in /usr/src
    could use a little more info;
do a $ uname -r to see what kernel you are using
    see if you have a matching folder in /usr/src , do a $ ls -l /usr/src

Make sure to read at fedora.redhat.com concerning the change of kernel source.

I have kernel 2.6.10-1.770 installed... I tried installing the source RPM, but it doesn't seem to have had any effect on the Nvidia Installer. What should I put for the --kernel-source-path variable? The directory structure underneath /usr/src is as follows:
    Code:
    /redhat
    --/BUILD
    --/RPMS
    --/SOURCES
    --/SPECS
    --/SRPMS
But what do those messages in /var/log/nvidia.log mean about "No NVIDIA graphics card installed"?

Finalzone, where on fedora.redhat.com are you referring to?

    Thanks for your help

Look at the link of Fedora Core 3 release notes.

To use kernel-2.6-x.y.src.rpm, do these following command as root
    Code:
    rpmbuild --rebuild kernel-2.6-x.y.src.rpm
That will install the source code under /usr/src/BUILD/ repository. Then you can install the binary NVidia driver/

That gives me the following error:
    [root@bleep ~]# rpmbuild --rebuild kernel-2.6.10-1.770_FC3.src.rpm
    Installing kernel-2.6.10-1.770_FC3.src.rpm
error: Architecture is not included: i386

But the "yum" command as recommended by SlowJet worked, thanks!!

Would someone care to explain why the rpmbuild didn't work?

Damnit! I spoke too soon. Although the "yum install" command finished successfully, I get the following when I try to use an application which would make use of my 3d card (i.e. "bzflag"):
    Code:
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
    Can't create window. Exiting.
    Doh!

you probably need nvidia-glx or whatever teh package is called, although if you yumed the drivers the other package should have been installed as a dependency

    Nevermind!!!!!!

I am the biggest idiot in these forums, ever, bar none.

I'm so embarrassed by my mistake I dare not even say what I was doing wrong, but needless to say my issue has been resolved and the correct drivers are now installed.

Thanks to all for their help!
