modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_1

    Hi All!

I am having problems getting sound out of my SB Live. This error appears now. Can you help me solve it?

    [root@merlin root]# cat /var/log/messages | grep modprobe
Mar 4 20:22:12 merlin modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_1
Mar 4 20:22:12 merlin modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_2
Mar 4 20:22:12 merlin modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_3

I get the error on startup and by running /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound.

    Thanks
    GrahamB

What kind of SB Live! is it? I have a SB Live! 24-bit but it doesn't use the emu10k1 drivers like the rest of the Live! family does. I haven't really had much success getting it to work either. I found a couple of posts on here, but none of them fixed my problem.

On a related note: I keep seeing references to the "modprobe" command, but when I type in "modprobe" in a command line, I get a "command not found" error. Am I missing something here?
    System Specs:
    Compaq 2195us
    Fedora Core 3
    • Athlon XP-M 2500+
    • 512 MB RAM
    • Radeon IGP 320M
    • 40 GB Hard Drive
    • Broadcom 802.11g Wireless
    • ~2.5 Hrs Battery Per Charge

if you pay attention to his post you will see this line:
    remove snd-emu10k1 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-emu10k1
which tells how the command is being issue.

Now about your sound problem were you able to test your sound after the installation? I am not sure if this will help you: http://www.euronet.nl/~mailme/old_page/

    Hi Unkemptwolf!

I believe that my sound card is SB Live 5.1. It appears to belong to the 24 bit familly.

This from the Creative Labs product information:

The Sound Blaster® Live!™ brings cinema-quality sound to your movies, music, and games with digital 5.1 clarity. Driven by the powerful EMU10K1™ Digital Signal Processor, you will experience the highest quality sound reproduction with real-time audio and effects. The Sound Blaster Live! includes Creative PlayCenter™ with a full 320kbps encoder and 9X MP3 acceleration, etc...............

    Regards
