Evolution lost settings
Looking for a little help with Evolution.
Recent flatpak update (on F34), currently have (3.40.4-1.module_f34+12632+5ae7e8f8) installed.
Go to launch Evolution and the "initial setup dialog" appears.
All accounts seem to be gone, and a *lot* of local email appears gone.... But it's not really....
Looking under ~/.var/app/org.gnome.Evolution/data/evolution/mail/local/<folder name>/cur/ have a lot of emails....
I could recreate the settings.... I do have a backup from about 13 days ago, but would rather be surgical in the restore, and see if there is a way to restore just the settings and point them back to the .var tree....
Everything I am seeing online is pointing me under ~/.local and ~/.config.... No one is mentioning ~/.var....
Any pointers to some docs or suggestions on bringing Evolution back to life for me?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Evolution lost settings
Hi,
Same thing happened to me when I tried to open Evolution today.
Why has this happened? Have I been hacked?
I have not taken up the invitation using this screen.
I will run clamav.
Same as for Rob, any advice welcome.
Couran.

Re: Evolution lost settings
This has happened to me straight after the update mid-week last week (29th Sept?) - Even deleting and re-adding the online account for Google doesn't reinstate the account in Evolution. I've had to switch to thunderbird in the meantime.
It's worth noting that the google account appears to connect correctly to some extent as my events show in the notification area and in the Gnome Calendar app, but not in Evolution.

Re: Evolution lost settings
So, I figured out the ~/.var is because it is running as a flatpak.
Currently using the webmail forms to get to my new email (Google and others). Just would really like to get to all my locally stored email (lots of years worth)....
Cannot find any settings in dconf that seem to apply, so not sure if this is the update to evolution flatpak on Oct 3 for me:
Oct 3 06:32:00 deploy update org.fedoraproject.Platform f34 system fedora
Oct 3 06:32:00 deploy update org.gnome.Evolution stable system fedora
Not sure how these flatpaks get updated/distributed....

Looks like this has been reported and a resolution may be forthcoming:

Re: Evolution lost settings
Hi,
I found that without going through the whole srart evolution settings thing, I could start evoution on the terminal
$ evolution
Not sure why, it contained only emails up to when I last backed-up evolution. Even so, I could connect it to my email sevice provider, which keeps past emails for the last six months. So I could then update my emails. Then ran backup evolution to create file evolution_backup-date-tar.gz (as you would know).
Then I reinstalled evolution : $sudo dnf reinstall evolution (after removing evolution from Favorites.) Not sure if this made any difference. Then used the latest evolution update....tar.gz with the message inviting me to run Evolution Setup.
From the evolution icon in the applications, re-added evolution to Favorites.
Only issue after that was to delete all the emails which reappeared after I had "send/receive" from the newest evolution update - the ones I had previouslsy deleted from my system but which had bben kept by my email ISP.
Evolution now working fine, as usual. But I am not sure which of the things I did allowed things to be be restored.
Cheers, Couran

I managed to fix the issue by simply uninstalling Evolution and reinstalling from the Flathub repo.
No backup is necessary, although it doesn't hurt to save the config folder in ~/.var I guess.
It's a 3 clicks process through the Software Center, or simply run:
Code:
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo
flatpak uninstall org.gnome.Evolution
flatpak install flathub org.gnome.Evolution

Re: Evolution lost settings
So I rectified my issue based on some comments from the package maintainer in the bugzilla entry...
Started evolution, but canceled out of setup dialog.
Chose Back up Evolution Data
In Software, removed evolution flatpak
In Software, added evolution rpm
Launched evolution, but canceled out of setup dialog.
Chose Restore Evolution Data
Had to re-enter various passwords, but other than that everything is happy.
