[SOLVED] Android Studio causes gnome to crash and return to login screen

EDIT: See my reply below - marking as solved because I think I've found the source of the issue and the title is no longer relevant

Fedora Workstation 30, GNOME Shell 3.32.2, Android Studio 3.5

While using Android Studio, my screen will suddenly go black for about 2-3 seconds, then return me to the login screen. This happens at seemingly random times anywhere between 5 minutes and an hour apart. It only seems to happen while I'm actively typing into the editor. So far, I've tried disabling all gnome extensions and downgrading libinput and neither of them solved the problem. This has never happened with any other application on this machine

Interestingly, I have a different machine at my office that runs Fedora 30 with my desktop environment configured pretty much exactly the same way, and I have never once had Android Studio crash on it.

I've appended a stacktrace found in the output from journalctl -r /usr/bin/gnome-shell in the seconds leading up to a crash. I'll also attach a more complete log as a .txt file

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Edit : I switched to Gnome on Xorg and now it happens much less frequently, but still crashes about once every few hours.

Re: Android Studio causes gnome to crash and return to login screen

Android Studio is not the cause of these crashes. I have now had it crash once where the logs say that Firefox was the source of the error, and I've had it crash once when Android Studio wasn't even open. I think at first it just so happened that it only happened in AS because that's 90% of what I use this machine for, or maybe AS makes use of some library that causes the crash. I am quite certain that my Nvidia gpu is the culprit - it would explain why my work machine (which uses Intel integrated graphics) is not having the same issues. I've heard that Nvidia has issues with Wayland, but that wouldn't explain why these crashes still happen on xorg.

Every time it crashes on xorg, it gives me the following message in the logs (newest to oldest):

    Code:
Sep 07 14:24:31 localhost.localdomain org.gnome.Shell.desktop[27742]: Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server

    Sep 07 14:24:31 localhost.localdomain org.gnome.Shell.desktop[27742]: > Internal error: Could not resolve keysym XF86RotationLockToggle

    Sep 07 14:24:31 localhost.localdomain org.gnome.Shell.desktop[27742]: > Internal error: Could not resolve keysym XF86MonBrightnessCycle

Sep 07 14:24:31 localhost.localdomain org.gnome.Shell.desktop[27742]: The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:

Sep 07 14:24:31 localhost.localdomain org.gnome.Shell.desktop[27742]: glamor: No eglstream capable devices found

Sep 07 14:24:29 localhost.localdomain gnome-shell[27672]: Failed to create backend: Unable to open display ':0'

    Sep 07 14:24:29 localhost.localdomain gnome-shell[24939]: gnome-shell: Fatal IO error 4 (Interrupted system call) on X server :0.

    Sep 07 14:24:29 localhost.localdomain org.gnome.Shell.desktop[24939]: xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
then proceeds to print out a bunch of errors to do with keycodes and xkbcomp before crashing entirely.

I will install the proprietary Nvidia driver and see if that helps, then after that I'm fresh out of ideas

Edit: No crashes since installing the proprietary driver
