help resolving suspected privileges issue with xerox printer driver

    Hello,

First, I know the title suggest this being a printing problem, however, not a printing problem yet. This is going to be another long and wordy post. Here is the thing. I have used in the past linux Xerox drivers with Fedora and other distributions in the past. Now on fedora 30 I am finding a weird issue, the driver installs with no issues but when I proceed to the next step which is to type in the terminal the command "sudo xeroxprtmgr" absolutely nothing happens is like pressing Enter Key with no command whatsoever. All I get is a new line with the blinking cursor . The command is supposed to bring up this window but it does not

When I type "xeroxprtmgr" without elevated privileges the command brings up a different window which I was told in the xerox forums is normal behavior when not ran as root. And that means the driver is actually working.

I made my self a member of wheel but that did not help.

    System: Linux 5.1.20-300.fc30.x86_64
Driver can be found here: https://www.support.xerox.com/suppor...ileLanguage=en

    Thanks for any help!

Re: help resolving suspected privileges issue with xerox printer driver

Maybe I should mention that no printer is needed to try to replicate this problem. A working Fedora 29/30, and installing the driver from the provided link above. It won't hurt (The GUI package manager will easily take care of the installation and removal of the driver as long as the package manager window is not close, if close and reopen the package manager won't show the driver on the list of installed stuff)

If some else will be kind enough to try to replicate the problem and help me understand if this is a privileges problem or something else. This post might belong in the printing section, but honestly I don't know.
In the event that the powers that be think that is the case, please move it to the right section. Thank you!

Re: help resolving suspected privileges issue with xerox printer driver

Man! I cannot thank you enough! I am almost out of the woods with this issue. I Followed HaydnH suggestion, and now the Xerox Printer Manager windows opens up! Now I am able to choose the printer and set the properties queue!
Still cannot print because the printers here have the accounting feature turned on, and that is why I have to go through all this to be able to print (It was working for me before but they got newer models) Hopefully it won't be to difficult to troubleshoot from here. I had this behavior before, usually a logoff or reboot would fix. Not this time though.
The following is an image of what is expected to open up when printing from any application:

The way I am getting away with printing is I installed Ubuntu inside Fedora using Boxes, and go back and forth.

Re: help resolving suspected privileges issue with xerox printer driver

I suspect Wayland to be the culprit as it no longer allows graphical programs to be run as root by default, the fact that glennzo can run it under LXQT (which isn't Wayland yet) supports that theory. See the bottom of this article and try the xhost command at the bottom: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php...ations_as_root

Right on the money! you guys Rock!

As I explained to glennzo, I still cannot print. Now I am experiencing something I have seen before when installing the driver and that would get fixed by logging off or rebooting the machine. Not this time, I have rebooted two or three times and no luck.

    A working scenario would be:

After executing print inside any application a driver queue will open:

Here you choose your preferences like any other printer.
When OK pressed, job gets then sent to the printer and printer responds with:

here you enter you corresponding code.
When OK clicked, job is actually sent to printer to either get printed or deleted if entered the wrong code.

Now instead, job gets sent directly to printer -skipping first image- just to get deleted for the lack of "credentials". As I mentioned before, in the past a reboot would take care of it (that is how I got it to work in the latest LTS version of Ubuntu running inside boxes at this time) not this time with Fedora 30.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Unfortunately this sounds like it's now a question for the Xerox forums.
