    Re: grub.cfg

You're not supposed to edit the grub.cfg as it is a generated file. It would be better to explain why your generated grub.cfg is not working and post it here.

    Re: grub.cfg

If you can boot the damaged system then do the following

    sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/grub.cfg

If your grub is fully clobbered, you will need the recovery mode.
I have not done it in ages but activities are to be done, something like
boot the Flashdrive to a recovery version.
mount / /boot and /boot/efi for the system to be recovered
    chroot to that system
and run the sudo grub2-mkconfig as above.

    reboot to the new system.

    Hi lesli,
Thanks a lot for the hint with chroot. I will try that.

    Re: grub.cfg

    another fedora story,

I upgrade my fedora system from fedora 6 on to fedora 30. But on fedora 29, my usb driver got broken, i had to reinitialize the usb
port, then it did work. new kernel 5.2.9 from fedora 30 should fix it. but my fedora 30 got stuck with kernel upgrades an got stick at 5.0.something.
I tried to fix taht with grub2-mkconfig, but it messed up grub.cfg completely.

I tried to recover it with a fedora29 from a usb-stick. Mounted als the stuff as Isastein recommended. It actually did something. New kernels where visible
in the new grub.cfg, but it was still unable to boot.

so (un)lucky me a have a additional harddisk. I installed a brand fresh fedora 30 an installed the data from the backup :-) Yes i didn't loose any bits.
With the new fedora 30 the pc boots faster and the usb driver bug is fixed with the new kernel 5.2.9
