Possible to make live-usb pen with multiple spins

    Hi.

So far (third week) I think Fedora is an interesting OS.

Thing is, I have a couple of old (ancient?) computers laying around, that have running older Ubuntu based distros and I think it is time to upgrade to a more recent OS.

And because of the aging of the computers, I would like to test several desktops on them before install, so that I can try to decide if eg. Mate is too heavy for one particular computer.
So I got to think - I have a couple of 32GB USB sticks available. Is it possible to cram more than one spin into one USB stick?

This is what I have done with Fedora 30
    Install Fedora KDE (first, then
    sudo dnf group install gnome
    sudo dnf group install pantheon
    sudo dnf group install deepin
    sudo dnf group install ....

You can then select the interface of interest with the gear icon that appears on the logon page.

    That sound awesome.

But it make me wonder about some things:
    • Are Fedora KDE required to be installed first in order to do that? (i.e. Can it be done if Cinnamon is installed first?)
    • Can this feature being "transfered" to live-CD (ISO image file) ?
    • How many desktop environoments can be added into one system?

I found that by installing gnome first, I was unable to run kde, when kde was installed second. The reverse worked. I did have success with gnome followed by pantheon and deepin. These latter ones are based on GTK / gnome whereas KDE is built with QT.

Re number of alternative interfaces. There are others to add to the above, such as cinnamon and mate and something like I3 .
But in the end, you are llkely going to use the same browser, the same compilers and languages (php, etc) with each inteface. You are likely to only learn a bit of how they look and not much more.

As there are only 24hrs in a day, and if you decide to program for one interface, consider that you will not have time to redo it for another. It is better to learn one main interface of your choosing, and one second one.
