Can't connect to ssh from one laptop on local network

I have SSH and FTP set up on my fedora machine and users (me) can authenticate with an encryption key. I used to be able to connect using my desktop locally, my laptop locally and also remotely from the laptop but now I can't connect locally from the laptop. When I look at the logs

    Aug 21 10:44:44 localhost.blah sshd[13382]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user defiantpanda by (uid=0)
    Aug 21 10:44:44 localhost.blah sshd[13382]: Accepted publickey for defiantpanda from 10.1.1.14 port 50436 ssh2: RSA longstringofstuff

but my laptop just hangs there. It isn't connecting. When I try to sftp it times out and retries endlessly.
I have restarted the laptop, restarted the fedora machine, restarted the modem. I don't know what else to do from here.

    Any advice appreciated.

Weirdly enough, when I log back on with my desktop, it says last log on was several minutes ago from 10.1.1.14 (the laptop)... As though it successfully logged on. Wth.
I changed the IP address the laptop uses thinking maybe the IP got blocked somewhere but that didn't work either.
